DENVER - ASCENT PRESS, the official publishing division of the Center for African American Policy at the University of Denver (CAAP), today announced the launch of its new website and quarterly public affairs journal, commemorating the 78th birthday of the legendary civil rights icon and leader Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.  The ASCENT Policy Journal, an exclusive electronic quarterly presenting thought provoking and penetrating analyses on issues impacting the African American community, represents the flagship effort of ASCENT PRESS' publishing operations.

As a project of the CAAP, the ASCENT Policy Journal represents a unique opportunity to offer original and balanced insight from across the ideological spectrum on an ambitious range of political, social, economic and cultural issues. Launched once every seasonal quarter, ASCENT Policy Journal will seek to present the perspectives of many respected thinkers, commentators, teachers and elected officials throughout the African Diaspora while also serving as a platform for new voices and students of public policy.

Through the digital medium, ASCENT Policy Journal will encourage the exchange of ideas on the direction of the African Diaspora in the 21st century. It will capture and coagulate a quarterly exercise in critical Black thought on our evolution as a community and ideas on advancing our maturation as an influential voice in shaping public policy.

Seasonal releases of the ASCENT Policy Journal will consist of hard-hitting studies on a wide range of topics in politics, social policy, cultural affairs and economics, including penetrating analyses into the most pressing domestic and foreign policy issues affecting the African Diaspora.  There will be an ongoing "open call" for submissions to the journal, although some contributors to the journal are recommended by an editorial board within the CAAP.  Content in the journal will strive to present the most diverse range of ideological and political perspectives regardless of contributor philosophy or political affiliation.

"The purpose of the journal is to uncover fresh, new ideas on the future of our people in this rapidly changing, globalized and digital world," said the Honorable Peter C. Groff, Esq., Publisher of the ASCENT Policy Journal and Executive Director of the CAAP. "It's not our goal to push one agenda in opposition to another.  Instead, we seek to create a collaborative forum aimed at experts, concerned citizens and policy makers.  Ultimately, we envision the journal as a leading platform for innovative ideas and solutions addressing the most pressing challenges of the day."

ASCENT PRESS, a division of CAAP, publishes books and content focused on public policy issues impacting the African American community. Funded by the University of Denver, ASCENT PRESS seeks to create a continuum of unique, information-driven properties. ASCENT PRESS will identify quality non-fiction titles, assess their influence on shaping Black public policy and market them to a global audience eager to absorb such information.

The ASCENT PRESS website, www.ascentpress.org, is also a partner site to the CAAP's popular online flagship www.blackpolicy.org, a widely recognize and comprehensive source of African American political and public policy information.  “The launch of ASCENT PRESS' own unique identity and the release of the policy journal represents our progession to the next level in media,"  says Groff. “Much of this would not be possible without the tremendous level of support and investment we've received from the University of Denver.  For that, we are truly grateful for the University's involvement."

The University of Denver Center for African American Policy is a unique blend of academics, public policy and community and public service. The Center was formed to encourage public discourse and increase the flow of information on issues, policies and trends affecting African Americans. The goal of the Center is to work for and achieve a positive change in the present and future lives of African Americans through academics, the arena of public discourse and community and public service.
